Nebraska Wrestling made its much anticipated debut into the Big Ten Conference in 2011-12, and the program looks to continue its long standing success as one of the most prestigious and successful programs in the county. Head Coach Mark Manning has continued a long line of success in his 12 seasons at the helm of the Huskers. With hard work and a dedication to excellence, Manning has developed a program that consistently competes with the nation’s best.

Since its inaugural season in 1910-11, Nebraska has earned 632 dual victories, including 164 wins over the past 12 years under Manning. Since Manning's arrival, the Huskers have finished in the top 12 at the NCAA Championships seven times and have racked up 32 All-America honors, including four individual national titles.

One reason NU has been able to develop such a successful program is its top-notch facilities. In October 2011, the Husker wrestling program moved into the state-of-the-art Hendricks Training Complex, which provides three full-sized practice mats, new office suites and new areas for both strength and conditioning and athletic medicine. From the Devaney Center to the state-of-the-art weight room in the Osborne Athletic Complex, Nebraska provides its wrestling program with the necessary environment for success

Nebraska has produced 11 national champions, including five since 2000. In addition, Husker wrestlers have earned a total of 91 All-America honors in the history of the program, including 32 since Head Coach Mark Manning took the reins of the program in 2000.

22 Huskers are members of Nebraska’s 100-win club, including Tucker Lane who entered the club during the 2011-12 campaign.

Numerous Nebraska wrestlers have continued their careers on the international stage after their time with the Huskers. At least two former NU wrestlers have represented the United States at the FILA World Championships each of the last five years.

Husker wrestlers have won 16 medals at the championships, including titles by Bill Scherr in 1985, Rulon Gardner in 2001, and Jordan Burroughs in 2011. Burroughs wasted no time after his college career to make his mark on the international wrestling scene by winning the 74 kilogram/163 pound title at his first World Championships in September 2011.  Brad Vering was named the 2007 Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year by USA Wrestling after his silver-medal performance at the 2007 FILA World Championships.

Nebraska wrestling has climbed its way into the Olympic spotlight during the past several Olympic Games. Former Huskers who have continued their careers on the international stage include two-time Olympic medalist Rulon Gardner, who won a gold medal in 2000 and a bronze in 2004 in Greco-Roman. Overall, seven Nebraska wrestlers have participated on seven U.S. Olympic teams and claimed six medals. Jordan Burroughs became the second Husker wrestler to win a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics by winning the 74kg (163 lbs.) freestyle competition.
