The Nebraska track and field team is a force every year at the NCAA Championships, as they have produced 77 individual NCAA Champions and another 606 All-Americans. Sophomore Chad Wright was the latest Husker to win a national title with a win in the discus at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The Nebraska women’s team won back-to-back-to-back national titles from 1982 to 1984 while most recently finishing in the top 20 at the NCAA Indoor Championships five times in the past 11 years. Outdoors, the women’s team has secured five top-10 finishes in the past 11 seasons, including two top-five finishes in 2003 and 2004.

The men’s team has been among the top 25 at nine of the last 11 indoor championships, including a tie for fifth in 2009. Outdoors, the men have finished in the top 20 at eight of the last 11 national meets, including top-15 finishes in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2012.

Over the past 115 years of Nebraska track and field, the program has been the most dominant program in conference history. The men's and women's squads have combined to win 885 individual titles and 104 team championships. In their first season as members of the Big Ten Conference, the Husker women won the indoor team title and NU brought home 11 individual titles.

The Huskers were also the most dominant program during their 15-year stay in the Big 12 Conference, winning 23 of the 60 team titles, the most of any program in the league. The Huskers produced one of the most impressive feats across all conference sports from 1980 to 1995 when the women's team won both the indoor and outdoor league titles every year, an unmatched 16-year run.

Most recently, the women's team won the 2011 Big 12 indoor title and 2012 Big Ten indoor title, as well as the Big 12 outdoor title in 2005. The men's team has been just as tough at the conference level, winning 14 team titles. The Husker men won their fifth outdoor title in 2009 and then became the first men’s program in Big 12 history to repeat at the conference outdoor meet with another championship in 2010. Indoors, the men won six straight indoor titles from 2000 to 2005 and a seventh in 2007.

The Nebraska track and field program annually produces athletes who go on to professional careers in track and field. The latest to see their Olympic dream come true is four-time Big 12 multi-event champion Chantae McMillan, who will compete in the heptathlon for Team USA at the 2012 Games in London. Amber Neben will compete in her second straight Olympic Games as a member of USA's Cycling Team.

Following the 2008 season, Dusty Jonas signed a professional contract with Nike and competed in the 2008 Olympic Games for Team USA. Jonas was not alone in Beijing, as he was joined by former Husker track and field athletes Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, Dmitrijs Milkevics, Ineta Radevica, Györgyi Farkas and Amber Neben. Lopes-Schliep became the first Husker to earn a medal in the hurdles with a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles.

Going back to the 1968 Games in Mexico City, the Huskers have had at least one current or former athlete win an Olympic medal in track and field at every Olympic Games except the 1972 (Munich), 1988 (Seoul) and 2004 (Athens) Games. The Huskers have also had a representative at every Olympic Games since the 1956 Games in Melbourne, Australia.
